ISTENFOLD
The world they knew was gone and in its place existed a massive sea of silver and light that swirled with dim impatience and extended in all directions as far as one could see. The power transferred to each was unknown at the time but they quickly became aware when thoughts would manifest from the majestic ocean that covered everything. Constructs, creatures, food, luxuries, and so much more sprang to life from nothingness as the weary adventurers tested their new abilities. It was only after the initial shock and elation wore down that they had noticed one of their number was missing. Instead of six, there were only five. STAN LEE didn’t make it.
This somber reality caused a series of arguments which unveiled a second difference between this world and the last. Traits of the adventurers’ personalities began to show as physical manifestations. Anger warped attractive features into nightmarish appearances and cowardly behavior shrank the physical stature. Nobility and honor became inborn sources of light. The lust for power converted hands into weapons and skin to armor. No longer content or safe within one another’s company, the adventurers split up and went their own ways.
Once the adventurers had drifted off away from one another, strange things began to happen. The blankness of the realm began to shift much like before only now it was more permanent and less intentional. The space around those who were calm evolved into peaceful glens, quiet coves with bubbling streams, and sanctuaries for all manner of majestic and intriguing creatures. Areas inhabited by the more bitter and volatile adventurers seemed to shatter the fabric of reality. Nightmarish landscapes filled with the worst kinds of beings spread like cancer until that corner of the realm was nigh-inhabitable for the others.
Once these islands were created, something unexpected happened. As the environments settled, each one allowed a space for some of the silver liquid to form a small pool. These pools revealed a strange new world. Sentient races, powerful creatures, civilizations and great wildernesses were on display in real time. This caused the adventurers to leave their places of solace and isolation in an attempt to find one another again. The silvery liquid was gone and the ground was transformed into a giant sheet of liquid glass that exposed this world in its entirety.
Focus allowed the adventurers to move in for an intimate view of individuals or to pull back and witness multiple bodies of light and rock that encircled the massive planet. It took awhile but the five eventually regrouped. The next surprise was more unbelievable than all the others. The planet, her moons, and the suns came to rest beneath the people on top of the transparent ocean. Each adventurer could feel the body that aligned beneath them.
They were celestials.
